Hand in Hand, we Pace for Peace
Baalbeck, the city of the sun sparkled beaming a major ray of peace that lit the dim sky of Lebanon; it was the “Run all together for Peace” day. Some would say it was just a marathon but I beg to defer, the sight of the white shirted waves of Lebanese and Syrian youth side by side flooding the streets of Baalbeck waving Lebanese flags is an absolute redefinition of social cohesion. What started as part of UNICIF and Canada Fund supported “Education and Life Skills education for Syrian refugees and Lebanese adolescent” Project, transpired to a celebration of co-existence on Friday the 26th of September, 2014. The idea of youth having a platform to speak their mind simply was un-miss able. Sela Jaafar, a Lebanese participant in the “Run All together for Peace” expressed her enthusiasm saying, “we belong together, let’s forget our small differences and look to our huge commons, humanity will prevail and so will my dear Lebanon”.
Loay Kwaife , a Syrian participant in the “Run all together for Peace” added, “today is the day we give gratitude to this great country that stood by us, we believe in this countries peace and we will support it”. The marathon was concluded by an award ceremony held by LOST director Dr. Ramy Lakkis who dedicated awards to the great contribution and sacrifices of the Lebanese army.
