Short article by zarifa Ballouk, member of the “Step Towards Municipal Elections” Baalbeck group:
As I took a moment comparing a supposed beauty of this city and the reality, especially the state of its streets and the trespasses on its nature, I grew more agitated. I have been to a lot of magnificent cities in my life, and a question now troubles me. Why? Why aren’t these streets in my city? Why aren’t their green laws in my area? Why are my fellow citizens disregarding these facts in cold blood? Why aren’t there any correctional procedures? Why isn’t there any care for infrastructures? The simple answer is the absence of a leader that takes action and demands change.
Our city needs laws and regulations; it also needs a set of actions and monitoring to oversee any implementation procedure. We also need to focus on the youth mind building and on media outreach that sharpens awareness through a well structured campaign.
I believe in change. I am one of the main workers in the municipal field, I can provide leadership, thinking and planning skills. I want to change the norms and set new standards. a 1000 Mile trip starts with a step, and I have taken that first step through the ” Step Towards Municipal Elections” project. LOST and the people of the Netherlands have supported me in my rise, now I need your support so I can become a decision maker.
