“Better Together: A Youth-led Approach to Peaceful Coexistence,” is a LOST and Search for Common Ground Lebanon EU-funded partnership project designed to address the challenges of social cohesion among Syrian and Lebanese youth. The first phase of the project involved a summer camp integrating conflict resolution trainings with artistic workshops in drawing, theater, music, and film. The summer camp which took place in Barka, Oyoun Orgosh started on the 31st of July 2014, Spanning over 6 days. It included over 120 campers varied from artists and musicians to youth from an array of cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Ali Awada a lebanease youth who was part of the camp gave us his insight on the project. He Said,” the atmosphere was astonishing, I have never been this close to Syrian youth and I can honestly say I was really unjust stereotyping them. I loved every part of the experience and I am proud to say this is a truly life changing experience; I am a changed man. I never thought I would have Syrian friends, now I am proud to say I have Syrian brothers and sisters”. This project lists under LOST’s policy of social cohesion and bridge building, where a peaceful cohesive community is what we aspire.
