In cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Forum for Development, Culture, and Dialogue organized a workshop titled “Citizenship and its Role in Promoting Democracy” at the UNIX Hall in Baalbeck, where a group of active youth in Baalbeck-Hermel participated.
The workshop started with a speech by Dr. Abdel Nasser Solh, in which he pointed out that the aim of this workshop is to focus on the role of the concept of citizenship in promoting democracy in pluralistic countries, especially in Lebanon’s circumstances, which have often led to the dispersion and loss of basic concepts underlying citizenship and democracy, in order to rationalize and promote dialogue.
The first session of the workshop was presented by Dr. Akram Yaghi, in which he discussed the role of political parties’ activities in strengthening the foundations and concepts of democracy. The second workshop, which was titled “Citizenship in Our Daily Life” was presented by media activist Ahmad Shalha.
