The most recent of the Lebanese Organization of Studies and Training’s (LOST) projects in women empowerment is “Women’s Committee in Baalbeck Municipality.” The project started in September 2016 in partnership with the German foundation Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).
Ten women who are interested in the public life and are willing to dedicate a portion of their time and effort to the municipal life are being trained and capacitated. Among the participants are three ladies who ran for office in 2016 municipal elections.
The participants are provided with in-depth training via three training activities; a workshop about “Municipal Law and Municipal Powers,” a seminar entitled “The Importance of the Municipal Work,” and a workshop about “The Municipality’s Role in Development and the Municipality and Good Governance.”
The capacitated women will be supported in the coming stages of the program to form a feminine body in Baalbeck’s Municipality to voice women’s interests and take part in making gender sensitive decisions.
