The Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) launched the Textile Exhibition for Handmade Garments at the Palmyra Hotel in Baalbeck, in the presence of the president of the Baalbeck International Festivals Committee, Nayla de Freige, representative of the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in the Arab States, Faiza Saad, founder of the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training, Dr. Ramy Lakkis, artist Marcel Khalife, director of the Antonine University Choir, Father Tawfik Maatouq, the mayor of Baalbeck, Hussein Al-Lakkis, heads of the municipalities of neighbouring villages, poet Talal Haidar, and a host of figures.
Dr. Lakkis pointed out that the
exhibition comes within the project of supporting the basic education of the
Syrian refugees in Lebanon, which is implemented by the UNESCO Regional Office
for Education in the Arab States, with the support of the King Salman Center for
Relief and Humanitarian Action. He talked about the importance of this
exhibition for the participating women, especially in the process of creating
jobs and increasing income. Furthermore, Dr. Lakkis stressed that “the project
includes the production of women trained in the project, who were able to
produce high quality clothes”, and thanking UNESCO Office, King Salman Center
for Relief, and all the people that attended the opening ceremony because their
presence emphasizes the importance of the exhibition and is considered an
encouragement for women.
