This is a story of a young male, who, due to harsh life circumstances, was forced to be responsible for a household. Omar El Flitty is a 21-year-old Lebanese male, who despite of what life has thrown at him, never gave up, and stood strong. Omar lives in a household of 6 members, and is the eldest male in the house.
Since Omar left school at a young age, his chances at attaining a decent job were very slim, which only meant that Omar had to try even harder in order to build his future and be there for his family. Omar’s father used to work in the construction field until he got physically injured, which left him unable to do any physical labor. Seeing that he could no longer work in construction, Omar’s father resorted to purchasing a car, which he then used as a taxi, but unfortunately had to sell the car to be able to pay bills and provide for his family. After selling the car, and being in the physical condition he is in, Omar’s father could no longer work and remained at home jobless.
As the conditions at home got tougher financially, Omar, being the eldest out of the male siblings began to immediately search for jobs and doing any task that would generate income. Omar followed his father’s footsteps, and decided to pursue construction, which is when he heard about the construction classes held at the Lebanese Organization for Studies in Training (LOST), in partnership with International Medical Corps (IMC). Eager to change his life around, and help his family, Omar quickly signed up for the course and began to learn and practice. Three weeks into the course, Omar’s coach decided to take Omar to work in a paid construction workshop in order to gain more experience, and to have a reputation in the field. Luckily for Omar, it did not end there. After a month in the course, Omar began to work with the “Food for Assets” project as a construction worker, and is working there until today, and may become recruited to an official skilled worker soon. Omar also free-lances in any construction workshop he gains access to. It is very easy to say that this course has opened doors for Omar, and he is now securing his future little by little and is officially the new head of the household.
