“As a constructive member of society, we have a role to play. We are a living entity, we have a life and a role to play in society, and everyone is part of that. So we need to share the pain and continue to support real economies.” Piyush Gupta, CEO, DBS.
The Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) in cooperation with UNICEF work tirelessly to reduce the outbreak of COVID-19 and the consequences that follow, also this cooperation aims to develop inclusive response and RCCE plans and strategies. This response also calls upon us to consult and work closely with affected communities, engage them, and in some cases, make them champions of change by reaching out to their peers and communities as part of the COVID-19 response efforts.
There are various misconceptions regarding the novel Corona Virus, whether the method of contagion, and how contacting the virus leads to COVID-19 complications.
A noteworthy mention here is a LOST trainer by the name of Layla, who had previously been trained by UNICEF and University of Balamand. She conducted training sessions to LOST staff in the Bedneyel centre. This team supported by volunteers from various LOST programs, conducted visits to the village Rasm Al Hadath in which they awareness raising sessions to 400 householders about attitude and practice regarding precautions against the virus.
The door-to-door visits had a number of components. First, after a general introduction, hygiene promoters explain what the corona virus is, and then describe the symptoms of COVID-19 and how it is transmitted. The second component is an explanation of hygiene practices that could highly prevent transmission, including good respiratory hygiene and handwashing practices, such as the use of the 20-second-rule. At the end of the 10- to 15-minute visit, the residents receive a leaflet with additional information, including posters for markets and masks for each resident. Safety measures are followed throughout the visit to protect both the residents and the team.
The ongoing awareness-raising campaign will reach at least 400 households in the towns of Tarya, Talya and Kfradabash.
