Since the implementation of the protection project in the town of Britel, the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) has been working to raise awareness on the issue of child labour, in cooperation with the local authorities. Moreover, the organization has formed a protection committee in the town that includes the mayor and educational figures, in order to better detect and solve issues and cases related to child protection.
The municipality of Britel has cooperated with the Protection Committee and passed a resolution on child labor that includes the decision of obliging employers
to ensure protection and safety at the work place for children, so that they are not subject to any harm. The committee also stressed the right of employees, especially young people, to a day off, reasonable wages, and working hours not exceeding the maximum permitted by law.
The committee also held awareness
workshops at the official school and in the municipality on the subject of
child protection and child labour. During the Friday sermon at the mosque, the Shaykh
stressed the issue of protecting children from harm and abuse, as a result of
the awareness campaigns and measures taken by the municipality and LOST.
The case management team performs several tasks in the town of Britel to monitor cases of abuse, and open protection files. In addition, this team provides psychosocial support services (strengthening self-esteem and integration into the social environment), and to provide all the required health and social services when needed, as well as psychological follow-up on cases through professional psychologists and psychotherapy techniques.
