“The proper education of the young does not consist of stuffing their heads with a mass of words, sentences, and ideas dragged together out of various authors, but in opening up their understanding to the outer world, so that a living stream may flow from their own minds, just as leaves, flowers, and fruit spring from the bud on a tree”, stated Comenius.
Then, a good quality education is one that provides all learners with capabilities they require to become economically productive, develop sustainable livelihoods, contribute to peaceful and democratic societies, and enhance individual well-being.
BINA3, is a project that was launched by LOST and The Training and Development Centers of the Bavarian Employers’ Associations (Berufliche Fortbildungszentren der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bfz)) in November 2019. The project aims at facilitating access to the labour market through needs-based and flexible continuing training programs. Bina focuses primarily on the delivery of the curriculum that meets the needs of the participants, takes account of prior learning and works on reinforcing their learning.
The 5 professions provided by BINA program aim to challenge the beneficiaries to alter their mindsets towards learning to consider it some enjoyable and beneficial rather than only a duty, task, or something mandatory. This point was a key issue when preparing the curriculum: learning is at the heart of every decision made in designing BINA’s curriculum based on the premise that the more the participants are involved in the process of learning, the more they feel valued.

Mohamad Issa, 22 years old, is a Lebanese student studying medicine in Italy. Upon the spread of Corona Virus, he left Italy and returned back to his hometown. Mohamad was continuing his online courses when he was informed by his friend about the Health and Elderly care profession in BINA. Mohamad decided to register and to attend this class in parallel with his University online courses. While attending the sessions, Ahmad improved his skills in clinical examination and test analysis such as blood pressure monitoring, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation in blood, BMI calculation, and theoretical basics (chronic diseases). The most significant impact of the student’s involvement within BINA program is the effectiveness of the content delivered for the participants. Mohamad Issa stated: “I appreciated a lot the efforts of the Health and Elderly care coach and the overall BINA staff. He supported me with valuable new information. The content delivered was very helpful when performing an exam scheduled by my university.”
BINA project, through its vocational program and contents, has made a real difference in the knowledge of the participants. It builds self-confidence and leadership skills by allowing the participants to utilize their unique ways to advance their knowledge and skills.
