The third session of the campaign “Partners in Facing the Living Crisis” was conducted by the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) under the title “Solid Waste Management: The Role of Municipalities and Municipal Unions.” The meeting was attended by the Minister of Environment, Dr. Nasser Yassin.
LOST’s founder, Dr. Ramy Lakkis, spoke about the environmental challenges and the issues related to them. “In the light of the socio-economic crisis, the environmental issues may not be a priority for many, but in fact, they are of high importance as the environment affects our health and resources,” he said.
Dr. Yassin expressed his appreciation of what has been achieved by LOST. He addressed several critical environmental issues in Lebanon, including the decline in environmental indicators, the deterioration of the water sector, and air pollution, all of which annually cause about one-billion-dollar loss in medicine and hospitalization sectors.”
At the end of the meeting, a discussion was held with the attendees, including mayors, heads of municipal unions, farmers, and activists, during which they presented the most prominent environmental problems they face in the region and proposed solutions to them.
