To the world, you may be just a teacher, but to your students, you are a “hero”. The Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST), in partnership with War Child Holland launched the project, “Building Vocational Capacity through Skills Development of Vocational and Non-Formal Teachers”, funded by Nuffic. This project aims to enhance the capacities of vocational teachers through active workshops and training sessions that will be led by 20 “heroes”.
These heroes will lead vocational teachers and NGO non-formal teachers to complete a one-year training on effective teaching, including cultural sensitivity. Teachers will be introduced to a variety of workshops that will improve their performance in the classroom, in addition to learning the outcomes of their students.
The secret in education lies in respecting the student. Therefore, students will play a main role in the teaching/learning process to increase proficiency in English language through attending active English sessions that meet their needs. Student responsibility occurs when students take an active role in their learning, by recognizing they are accountable for their academic success. Teachers who love teaching teach students to love learning can change lives with just the right mix of chalk and knowledge; they are a compass that activates the magnets of curiosity, knowledge, and wisdom in students.
Additionally, parent-teacher relationship is very essential to provide an active and healthy learning process. Education is a shared commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated students, and enthusiastic parents with high expectations. Through this project, this collaboration will be achieved through emphasizing on the importance of “Parent-Teacher Councils” in vocational schools that will help parents to increase their skills to support the education of their youth. At the end of the day, the most critical key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents. Together, we may give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly.
