Food security in Lebanon has skyrocketed in the past five years, with a staggering 44% of the population now living below the poverty line, according to WFP and UNHCR. The situation is even more challenging in the Baalbek-El Hermel region, where many families struggle to put food on the table due to the ongoing economic crisis.
But here’s some good news! Thanks to the amazing Shabake II initiative, implemented in partnership with Expertise France and funded by Agence Francaise De Developpment (AFD), 400 vulnerable individuals in Baalbek-El Hermel have received hot meals and food parcels. Every day, families used to bring pots and containers to the kitchen station at LOST’s head center in Baalbek to collect these essential supplies. The initiative was more than just a meal program, it was a lifeline for families who have been hit hardest by the economic downturn. Providing consistent access to hot meals ensures that these families receive the essential nutrients they need to maintain their health and well-being. The program also fosters a sense of community, as families come together daily at LOST center, supporting each other and sharing their experiences.
The success of this initiative was a testament to the incredible efforts of the kitchen team and LOST staff. Their dedication ensured that the food was distributed efficiently in a well-organized and hygienic environment. This precise attention to detail helped maintain high standards of cleanliness and order, making sure that every meal is safe and nutritious.
By ensuring that families receive this essential support in a structured and clean setting, Shabake II is not only fighting hunger but also easing the daily burden on families who are just trying to get by. This support allows them to focus on other pressing needs, such as finding employment, securing stable housing, or ensuring their children can continue their education. It’s a fantastic example of community support making a real difference, showing how targeted aid can help vulnerable populations get back on track and work towards a more stable future.
This wonderful initiative is filling bellies and lifting spirits in the region. Thanks to the generous support of Expertise France, this impactful project has launched its 2025 chapter, continuing its mission to support those in need especially after the latest aggressions that took place in Lebanon by the end of 2024. Shabake II and other initiatives are making a meaningful impact across the community. Stay tuned for more updates, exciting news, and inspiring stories that showcase the positive changes being achieved!
