The Lebanese Organization of Studies and Training (LOST) organized a ceremony to celebrate the Human Rights Day in Baalbeck. The activity is integrated with the Networks of Peace project (NOP) being conducted in partnership between LOST and the Dutch Embassy in Beirut.
The attendants of the event included stakeholders, municipal members, mukhtars, local NGOs, women, youth and volunteer mobilizing committee (VMC) members from the project’s 22 targeted villages.
In the preparations for the ceremony, VMC members from each area posted their rights on a paper to show the attendees what the most important rights for them are. In this context, the ceremony was an opportunity for the attendees to know more about their rights and how to claim them.
The ceremony began with a speech for Mr. Salah Zaayter about the importance of human rights in the daily life. The speech was followed by a presentation about the historical process of agreeing upon human rights, and especially the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
After the presentation, the attendees participated in a discussion about human rights in Lebanon and the possible ways to improve claiming them in the country qualitatively and quantitatively. Finally, it all ended with a cocktail party.
