The Lebanese Organization of Studies and Training (LOST) participated in the international conference Habitat III in Quito, Ecuador on October 16, 2016. The conference in its third version has the mission adopting a New Urban Agenda—an action-oriented document which will set global standards of achievement in sustainable urban development, rethinking the ways of building, management, and living in cities through drawing together cooperation with committed partners, relevant stakeholders, and urban actors at all levels of government as well as the private sector.
The organization was represented by its founder Dr Ramy Lakkis. He explained the role of LOST in engaging women in urban development at the national assembly at the German pavilion. He spoke about the role of women in political and social stabilization in Lebanon.
In a different session, LOST attended Second World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments for the New Urban Agenda in the presence of UN Secretary General- Mr. Ban Ki Moon- and more than 300 local and regional leaders representing different networks of local and regional governments.
The participation of LOST in Habitat III is inevitably beneficial to voice the situation in Middle East in general and in Lebanon in specific as this region has its own vision, needs, and actors pertaining to the process of urbanization.
