Under the slogan, “Together to Support Local Production”, the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) organized the exhibition “Local Lettuce Day”, in which lettuce farmers participated in at the community farm in the province of Baalbeck-Hermel. The exhibition was opened by the governor of Baalbeck, HE Bachir Khodr, in the presence of a number of activists in the region.
In his speech, LOST’s founder, Dr. Rami Lakkis stated that this exhibition “aims primarily to support the local economy and Lebanese farmers”, and added that “agriculture in our region needs extensive support, so one of the steps we took at LOST was to support and develop the agricultural sector to allocate events for each product that the region is famous for, and contributing to support farmers”. Dr. Lakkis also emphasized that the vegetables sold are healthy crops without chemicals, in addition to distributing hundreds of thousands of seedlings annually to farmers. Finally, Dr. Lakkis called on citizens to participate in supporting the local economy through the consumption and purchase of local products, instead of imported products.
In turn, governor Khodr welcomed this initiative, which supports agricultural production in the province, especially in light of the difficult economic conditions the country is facing. The governor called on farmers to improve the quality of agricultural production and adopt international standards that allow the Lebanese product to compete with other products, and to be able to export to European countries, through rationalization in the use of chemical pesticides and irrigation with clean water.
