On Monday August 17, 2015, LOST administration and staff with the presence of deputy mayor of Hermel, Esam Bleybel and key stakeholders in the area celebrated the end of construction of concrete water channels in the Assi River.
After two weeks of hard work, 144 meters worth of concrete irrigation channels were made to supply water to 130 Syrian and Lebanese homes in the Hermel area.
Bleybel said, “ We are very happy to have cooperated with LOST in order to help our people both Syrian and Lebanese.”
This activity was part of the “Strengthening Social Cohesion by Responding to Community Needs in Bekaa” project funded by the Dutch Embassy. For the Hermel area, the Peace Steering Committee recognized that in order to strengthen the town for both the refugees and vulnerable it is best to create an irrigation system to supply water for the homes around the river. The channels benefit local farmers and will provide a job opportunity for both vulnerable Syrians and Lebanese individuals.
