The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is a major public-private partnership led by UNICEF. The Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training has recently joined efforts as a UNICEF implementing partner through conducting local campaigns to help alleviate the disease. As an official kick off of the project, LOST has hosted a training workshop for spreading awareness regarding Polio dangers on Wednesday the 20th of August 2014. The training, which was conducted by Mrs Sabine Abd El Sater of the UNICEF health sector, was attended by a group of LOST field officers. Those field officers will be directing their efforts into building awareness about Polio in the areas of Baalbeck, Hermel, Ein, Bednayel and their surroundings.
Polio is a disease caused by a virus (wild poliovirus) that is spread throughcontaminated food and water or close contact with an infectedperson. It is particularly devastating because it can lead to lifelongparalysis, making it challenging for children to live healthynormal lives.
