As part of the Vocational Teachers’ Development (VTD) and capacity building project, being executed by the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) in cooperation with War Child Holland and NUFFIC, the first awareness session was conducted to 28 parents at LOST’s center at Al Ain, by the trainer and lawyer, Mr. Ahmad Toufaily.
The session mainly focused on the importance of parents’ roles in the learning process and the relation between students’ parents and teachers. In addition, it focused on the importance of English language nowadays, and the provision of English support, specifically for vocational students. Meeting with these parents whose children with poor English levels are benefiting from the language and skills support provided by the organization falls under the 2018-2022 national strategic framework for TVET in Lebanon.
Moreover, Mr. Toufaily also spoke about trauma and trauma identification as he discussed with the parents the ways they can tell if their children have experienced trauma, and ways to deal with traumatized children. Parents even asked for more meetings and deeper discussions and dialogues on trauma, and ways of better dealing with their teen children.
The attendees were very active and responsive, for they could all relate to the subject of the session. Moreover, they showed appreciation and willingness to unite their efforts with the organization and the teachers. This gathering with the parents revealed how in need they were to such orientations and sessions, and that everyone now is on the right track towards improving vocational students and teachers’ performance, and getting the parents involved in the loop again.
