Hiba (Alias), a 23-year-old student, is one of the dedicated strong participants who were enrolled in the CBT hairdressing training. This course is among the various trainings being offered as part of the “Skills for Active Youth” project, in partnership with UNICEF, and extending all over Northern Beqaa, from Ersal to Bedneyel.
Hiba got divorced at a very young age and is currently living alone with her 3 children in Chmestar, after their father left them behind six years ago. She has no one but a sixty-year-old father who can barely work and provide a living for his daughter and grandchildren, the thing that made this little family live below poverty line for years.
Hiba’s dream ever since she was a kid was to become a great hairdresser, but getting married early and being responsible for 3 little babies obliged her to give up her education and dreams. Hiba learned about the hairdressing class provided by LOST and joined the training sessions for a few weeks. Her objective, as mentioned by the coach, was to improve her income and make a living for her 3 children who need milk, diapers, and food. Hiba took advantage of the opportunity, and attended with eagerness to learn and acquire the skills needed to become a professional hairdresser.
After completion of the course, Hiba came a long way and became familiar with all types of haircuts and styles, and actually started looking for a job at the salons nearby. She finally found a job at “Salon Manal” and started generating an income that allows her to live in dignity with her children. Hiba is one of the many cases in society who were victims of issues such as early marriage, divorce, poverty, illiteracy, etc. Such Competency Based Skills (CBT) trainings can be all the hope and support some individuals are looking for at a certain point, for they are of long term benefit, and they will never have to worry about losing anything they learned, and “hope” tops the list.
