“Bekaa has the highest percentage in the fatal accidents among Lebanon 21 victims for 100000 people,” experts say. In response to this problem, the Lebanese Organization of Studies and Training (LOST), in collaboration with MSI, launched a six-month project named “Road Safety” which aims to create road safety ambassadors in Baalbek-Hermel and spread the road safety culture in the region.
The program is designed to target 96 youth, who are mostly Lebanese, with the main goal of providing them with full knowledge about road safety in order to train other youth in 16 schools and execute eight community projects that feed up road safety in Northern Bekaa.
One of the activities was to create, strengthen, and improve the link between stakeholders; municipalities, Internal Security Forces (ISF), school and institutes, and others pertaining to their role in road safety. For this reason, LOST organized eight meetings in its branches; Baalbek, Brital, Deir El Ahmar, Chmostar, Ein, Labwi, Ersal, and Hermel.
LOST’s cooperation with MSI promotes a culture of respecting road safety rules in a region considered to be paying the highest toll of victims who get injured or lose lives out of disregarding driving norms.
