“There is no such thing as “away.” When you throw anything away, it must go somewhere.” You may think it is just a saying but no; it is a whole mentality. Have we ever thought about where our wastes go? We must keep in mind that what goes around comes around- even garbage! To get “away” from these troubles, Go Green approach must conquer our lifestyle and this is the message carried by “Sorting from the Source” domain as a part of the Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) project that the Lebanese Organization of Studies and Training (LOST) is conducting in Baalbek and Bednayel, and recently in Bouday too!
Due to the positive vibes carried by the new sorting approach in Baalbek and Bednayel, in addition to the success being achieved in transmitting the message, the mayor of Bouday has requested to start a pilot “Sorting from the Source” project in a neighborhood in Bouday en route to initiate a full-scale project in the village. So, in cooperation with Bouday Municipality that will offer a piece of land for composting and then distributing the compost among the villagers, the project will proceed in the village with the assistance of Baalbek and Bednayel WASH coaches.
As a launching event of the project, WASH team has carried out a cleaning campaign in a neighborhood in Bouday in cooperation with the local municipality and LOST staff. This event has brought the sorting approach closer to the villagers’ minds and engrained in their souls the seeds of hope for a promising change. Bouday coaches have paid a primary introductory visit to the 100 allocated dwellings. Another visit was organized with Baalbek and Bednayel coaches, in which they distributed sorting brochures and sorting baskets, in addition to 30 plastic bags for every household.
The feedback was beyond successful as the villagers showed great enthusiasm towards the idea and expressed their true eagerness to start sorting as soon as possible. This positivity is planned to spread all over the Bekaa area and all over Lebanon too! To build up a healthy environment, we need the “hope blocks” set at the platform. These hope blocks are our positive attitude and honest intention for a true change. Only negativity must be kept “away”.
