Becoming an annual tradition, the Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) organized a major fair in Baalbek on Wednesday, the 24th of October, 2018 at Tammouz Hall, in partnership with UNICEF. This event aims to introduce the secondary schools’ students to the different majors offered by Bekaa university branches.
This fair has always been a success, as it widens the choices of students for different majors, and at the same time, it triggers and directs their interests to a specific domain or university. In addition, this fair is a great opportunity for the students to know more about the scholarships and financial aid offered by the universities.
Mr. Ahmad Shalha, LOST’s media coordinator, asserted that through this fair, the students will be able to ask more about their majors of interest and the opportunities this major offers them in the job market. He added that they will be able to infer upon what major fits them the most based on their capabilities and preferences. This year, the fair welcomed hundreds of secondary school students who are eager to know more about their future major and career. Mr. Shalha also stated, “this major fair will also take place in Bedneyel and Hermel, in order to benefit the greatest number possible of secondary school students, and broaden their knowledge on the different universities and majors present in their area”.
The students attending showed lots of enthusiasm towards the information they were receiving regarding their majors of interest and universities. Yasmine El Mawla, 18 years, from AUS Baalbek expressed her interest in such an event, stating, “this is really helping me to make a decision about my future major and career. It is assisting us in expanding our knowledge about universities and majors. I would like to major in law but I am also considering other majors right now”. Ali Msheik, 21 years, was also asking about the law major, stating, “this event is saving us so much time that we spend searching for majors we like to pursue our studies in”.
Every year, this fair proves that it is imposing true benefit to the community. Youth who are sometimes unaware of the college life and have no clue about their future major or career, can, at least, compose a primary idea about any major that would grab their interest or meet their educational and financial capabilities. Youth are society’s pioneers, and we must always put effort in order to widen their knowledge and help them excel in their academic plan.
